LED package demonstrates extreme brightness and uniformity

Feb. 10, 2005
Date Announced: 10 Feb 2005 Innovations in Optics, Inc. is now offering a new light emitting diode (LED) illumination package for engineers who are pushing the state-of-the-art for LED illumination applications. The product, called "LumiBright", exhibits extreme brightness and uniformity and is ideal for applications where traditional pre-packaged LEDs can't deliver.LumiBright uses an array of high brightness LED chips densely packed together on a single header consisting of a metal clad circuit board. The metal clad board provides power to the LEDs while functioning as a thermal conductor to dissipate heat from the LEDs to an external heat sink. A highly efficient optic captures light coming from the LED chips and redirects the light into a smaller (more usable) cone angle. The LumiBright optic is a non-imaging component that is greater than 95% uniform in both the near-field and far-field. Standard LumiBright offerings include 40-degree and 20-degree half angle outputs. The 40-degree output is ideally suited to mate with fiber optics because the output angle of the LumiBright matches the acceptance angle of the fiber. The 20-degree device is more typically used without fiber optics for high intensity direct illumination applications such as machine vision, projection systems, surgical lighting, UV polymer curing, genetic screening, and other scientific high-end applications.
