Handheld photometer simplifies testing of LEDs, lamps

Feb. 8, 2005
Date Announced: 08 Feb 2005 Pro-Lite has released the HLMS-200P from Labsphere Inc (North Sutton, New Hampshire, USA). The HLMS-200P Handheld Light Measurement System is an affordable, easy-to-use, precision photometric instrument designed for use in the field, laboratory, or the production floor. The instrument measures the luminous flux in lumens from small light sources such as LEDs, miniature lamps, and fibre optic illuminators and endoscopes. The HLMS-200P combines a compact 50mm diameter integrating sphere with a handle-grip holder with built-in microprocessor. The Spectralon integrating sphere collects the total light entering the sphere regardless of the size and divergence of the beam. The key benefit arising from the use of an integrating sphere in LED and fibre illuminator testing is the much-reduced sensitivity to light source alignment.Labsphere Spectralon is an award-winning integrating sphere coating that provides the highest diffuse reflectance in the 250-2500nm spectral range which imparts a higher degree of measurement sensitivity and directional repeatability. The detector used in the HLSM-200P is a photometrically filtered silicon photodiode which provides maximum sensitivity at low light levels and a close match to the eye’s photopic response. Sensitivity over five full decades provides the ability to measure from 0.05 to 7000 lumens. Data is instantly displayed on an easy-to-read 4 digit front panel LCD display. The instrument is portable and powered by a 9V battery. Calibration is in lumens and the HLMS-200P is supplied with a calibration certificate, declaring traceability to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
