Dialight signs patent license agreement with Color Kinetics

June 20, 2006
Dialight's US subsidiary has licensed Color Kinetics’ LED color-mixing patents, and describes this as an important next step in driving forward its initiatives in the North American market.
Dialight plc, the UK-based company that is one of the leading suppliers of applied LED technology and products, has announced that its US subsidiary, Dialight Corporation, will license Color Kinetics’ worldwide patent portfolio.

The agreement also provides Color Kinetics with access to Dialight’s patents as they may relate to enhancements to Color Kinetics’ technology.

Dialight says that its license will support the accelerated development of its LED application initiatives in the architectural, entertainment and general illumination markets. The worldwide licence applies to sales in all markets covered by Color Kinetics’ patent portfolio, which is considerably stronger in the US than elsewhere.

Dialight Corporation specializes in the application of LED-based lighting technology and says that access to Color Kinetics’ patents will complement Dialight’s own SpectraMix® control system and associated intellectual property.

Roy Burton, Group Chief Executive of Dialight, said "Following the acquisition of Lumidrives by Dialight plc in January 2006, to take us into the European solid-state lighting market, we view the Dialight Corporation agreement with Color Kinetics as an important next step in driving forward our initiatives in the North American market for solid-state lighting."

Burton added, "We also believe this agreement will be a major factor in stimulating the adoption of LED technology by our OEM lighting fixture partners."

“We’re very pleased to support Dialight Corporation in its plans to enter new markets with intelligent LED lighting offerings," said Bill Sims, president and CEO of Color Kinetics. "We believe there are many market opportunities for this technology that will continue to grow through third-party product development."

Sims said that Color Kinetics' mission is, in part, to fuel such growth through licensing relationships built on the company's strong intellectual property.
