Artistic Licence, Pharos win PLASA Innovation Awards

The PLASA show, which took place at London's Earl's Court last week, honoured two products related to LED fixture control.

The Visual Patch from Artistic Licence is described as “the ultimate time saver for converged lighting and video applications”. It creates an on-screen geographic map of a two- or three-dimensional pixel array. The camera detects the size, shape and position of the illuminated pixel, maps the data to screen coordinates and sets the pixel’s DMX512 start addresses via RDM. This a one-time only procedure during set-up, and slashes the set up time, according to Artistic License’s Wayne Howell.

Pulsar at PLASA Described by the judges as another first from an innovative company, the Visual Patch is destined to save hours of programming time in an industry exploding with LED light fixtures. Visual-Patch is built into Artistic Licence’s Colour Tramp lighting control system and will also be available under licence to other manufacturers. The company says that it is already developing the next generation of Visual-Patch which uses multiple camera positions to generate a 3D map of the stage.

A control system for entertainment and LED lighting in an architectural setting, the Pharos supports DMX or DALI colour mixing fixtures, dimmable ballasts and automated lighting. The judges felt that this was a beautifully engineered lighting controller.
