Samsung Electro-Mechanics has developed and started mass-production of a white LED lamp with an output of 1.2 candela for backlighting displays in mobile handsets.
This value almost doubles that of the most popular 600 mcd (milli-candela) products, allowing viewers to enjoy vivid images on their phone screen in daylight.
Moreover, it enables the same brightness using only half the number of conventional LED lamps, benefiting not only users, but also mobile handset vendors.
At present, the company has capacity of 80 million units a month at its lines in Korea and China, and plans to release 1.5cd LEDs and high-power LEDs for lighting devices in the second half of this year.
