Lumidrives Ltd has formed a joint venture with LEDIL Oy of Finland to design, manufacture and market a wide range of optics products for the rapidly growing LED market.

The new venture, named L2 Optics, will operate from 2 centres, with design and manufacturing in Salo, Finland, where LEDIL has a fully automated production facility. Sales and distribution will be based at Lumidrives' headquarters in Knaresborough, UK.

"We have searched for a number of years to find an optics partner with similar culture to Lumidrives," said Gordon Routledge, Lumidrives' managing director. "LEDIL is a highly innovative company with a deep understanding of optics technology, and is always seeking to push forward the application of this exciting technology."

"L2 Optics will offer class-leading range of optics using the combined strengths of both companies to develop some very innovative products," said Tomi Kuntze, LEDIL managing director.

The initial F-Form range from L2 Optics features 4-degree, 25-degree and oval-shaped beam patterns, with a typical efficiency of 85%. The company also offers bespoke designs for specialist applications and says that it has recently won a number of high-volume design contracts.
