Nora color-changing LED tape lights spice up restaurant cove lighting

Nearly 20,000 color-changing RGB LEDs from Nora Lighting are key ingredients in a bold and brilliant lighting display at Meizhou Dongpo, a new Asian restaurant in trend-setting Century City. From the start, the owners desired to make a visually-arresting statement that separated the site from other establishments.

In preparing the lighting plan, the Nora Lighting team had to work within the parameters of CA Title 24, which limits the number of watts per square foot in new commercial construction, thus making LEDs a practical option.

Nora’s Color Changing RGB LED Tape Light (24V) was installed in overhead coves throughout the interior and within the dramatic entry with multi-tiered displays of traditional Chinese vases. Designed for easy installation, the Nora RGB Tape Light is separable every 12” and can be connected without soldering.

The entire system is programmed to run with a Data Enabler PMX Splitting Color Player. Although the Color Player has the ability to display 16 million choices, the restaurant typically runs subtle blue lighting to illuminate the vases and reds at the cornerstone. During holidays, the restaurant goes all out – vibrant crimsons for Chinese New York and lively greens on St Paddy’s Day.

Because interior designers have become more LED savvy and LED prices continue to decelerate, restaurants are seeing new levels of design drama, including color-changing and mood-enhancing LED light shows.
