Aug. 31, 2009
Date Announced: 31 Aug 2009 Wonju City in Gwang Won province, South Korea, installed LED street lamps in line with the Korea government’s call to implement more energy efficient solutions. The installation of GALED PRAUS 150W streetlights populated with OSRAM Opto Semiconductors’ Golden DRAGON Plus LEDs represent the longest LED street light installation to-date in KoreaAn impressive 520 LED-based streetlamps with 37,440 Golden DRAGON Plus LEDs were installed along the road from Wonju interchange to South Wonju interchange, and replaced traditional MH 250W and 400W street lamps. GALED anticipates that the LED-based street lamps can save 48% power consumption, while the total cost of ownership can further reduce because of the exceptional 50,000 hour lifetime of Golden DRAGON Plus LEDs, minimizing maintenance and replacement costs.“We continue to work with local Korea governments to provide them with high-quality, and energy and cost efficient lighting solutions to meet their needs,” said Gi-Seon Jeon, CEO of GALED. “In conjunction with our partner OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, we are able to provide energy efficient, high brightness, customizable lighting solutions that are driving high satisfaction amongst our customers.”“We commend Gwang Won province for taking this step forward to maximize energy efficieny, saving both energy and government funds,” said Dr. Alfred Felder, President & CEO of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Asia Ltd. “OSRAM is committed to providing lighting solutions that maximize the return-on-investment for not only our customers like GALED, but for the governments and municipalities that are depending on cost-effective, high quality lighting products.”The Korea government plans to replace all incandescent light bulbs at public facilities with more energy efficient LED bulbs by 2012. President Lee Myung-bak has personally stressed the importance of energy conservation in today’s economic environment, instructing local Korea government chiefs to focus on ways to reduce energy consumption in their regions.Golden DRAGON Plus LEDs offer full-color spectrum brightness, consume 80% less electricity than incandescent lamps, and can last more than to 50,000 hours. The longer service intervals and the robust nature also attribute to LED-based street lighting by reducing maintenance costs. Furthermore, the availability of cool and warm white LEDs with excellent color rendering offers the flexibility to adjust the color temperature to specific street lighting applications.About OSRAM Opto SemiconductorsOSRAM is part of the Industry sector of Siemens and one of the two leading lighting manufacturers in the world.
