Date Announced: 04 Nov 2011 Löbau, Germany - The decision is final: 1,300 LED handrail lighting fixtures from Hess will illuminate Dresden's 636-m long Waldschlösschen Bridge. Before deciding, DEIB, a Dresden electrical engineering firm, compared several products from different manufacturers and concluded that Hess' Ledia GL HP was the most suitable for the task. DEIB then provided Dresden's lighting utility with its recommendation, which the utility approved. Designed specifically for handrails, Ledia GL HP meets the diverse and complex lighting requirements for the lighting of the new Waldschlösschen Bridge for pedestrians and bicyclists. Ledia GL HP's combination of high-output LEDs and its purpose-built, precision-engineered optical system, developed in cooperation with LightDesign Solutions GmbH of Dresden, produces pleasant, glare-free lighting, which neither disturbs nor annoys pedestrians and bikers on the bridge's two 3.8-metre lanes, as well as motor vehicles, boats or even insects. Ledia GL HP is extremely energy-efficient, installs in the bridge railing and remains out of sight during the day. Installation of the luminaires in the railing circumvents the need for pole mounted lighting fixtures, which would have likely altered the harmony of the new bridge's architectural appearance and its ability to blend into its surroundings. Besides Ledia GL HP's distinct technical advantages, Hess Lichttechnik's extensive experience and its long list of many challenging reference projects were also key reasons Hess won this bid, whose project value is around 1 million euros.
