Zumtobel Lighting has supplied its TECTON LED Linear Lighting System for the first urban transient SPAR store in Europe, located in Havannah Street, Glasgow. The store has been designed to be as efficient as possible, with LED lighting making a real statement as shoppers walk through the doors. TECTON in black was selected for the new SPAR store concept as it provides a solution that is easy to install, futureproof and compliments the modern interior.
The new 2,000sq. ft. site, which is a food-to-go hotspot for Glasgow students and shoppers, is located just five minutes from Glasgow City Centre, close to student housing, a variety of commercial premises including Glasgow City Council, and a large multi-storey car park, meaning its customers will be students, office workers and local residents. To help keep service and payment quick and convenient, both served and self-serve tills are available and, with in-store seating, free Wi-Fi and mobile charge points, there’s plenty to keep shoppers in the store. Jamie Buchanan, SPAR Scotland Formats & Merchandising Director, said: “We want this store to be famous for food-to-go, with its modern range of healthy, fresh, convenient and environmental products all within the SPAR brand.
The brief was to create a modern look that would welcome shoppers into the store and present the products in the best possible light, with illumination levels in the region of 850 lux. Several designs were originally created but the final decision was to use TECTON C in black with ONICO spotlights to achieve the desired results with the benefit of fast, simple installation and low energy consumption thus reducing costs.
TECTON is the world’s first continuous-row luminaire to have an 11-pole current conducting section built into its trunking, which means that the system comes ready equipped to meet tomorrow’s needs. All functions such as power supply, lighting control and connection to emergency lighting are seamlessly integrated into this multifunctional trunking. Luminaires can be positioned flexibly and the system can be adapted to suit structural alterations at any time. TECTON copes effortlessly with various lighting requirements – at the time it is installed and whenever there are changes as the TECTON trunking remains unchanged and forms the functional backbone of the system.
Zumtobel’s ONICO is a modular downlight system that features a distinctive design with a sleek, minimalistic aesthetic. With ONICO, the operating unit has been integrated directly into the spotlight, resulting in a powerful performance that maintains an unobtrusive look. ONICO transfers heat energy to the casing surface, thus guaranteeing maximum luminous efficacy and durability and passive cooling ensures performance power and durability.
CJ Lang & Son Limited, owners of the SPAR brand, has a distribution centre in Dundee that provides an essential service to over 300 SPAR member stores, combining product sourcing, warehousing, distribution and support services such as marketing, store refit project management, business guidance and training. It’s over a year since Colin McLean was appointed chief executive of CJ Lang, with a mission to revitalise the Dundee-based wholesaler and SPAR Havannah Street provides a window into what the team at CJ Lang believe SPAR in Scotland should look like, according to McLean. He added, “This is a great showcase to say, ‘if you want to be part of SPAR Scotland then this is the kind of stuff we can deliver.’
