ATLANTA – Acuity Brands, Inc. (NYSE: AYI) introduced today the RADEAN™ LED Pedestrian Round and Bollard family of outdoor luminaires from Lithonia Lighting®. The RADEAN family features simple yet elegant architectural silhouettes providing soft, uniform lighting that can help transform gathering places such as courtyards, outdoor retail locations, and university and corporate campuses into visually comfortable environments.
“Pedestrian areas are often subject to poor quality lighting resulting from lower pole heights, unnaturally bright pixelized sources or high angle light blasting outside its intended area. Many outdoor LED luminaires can produce harsh glare that passersby would rather avoid,” said Eric Gibson, Director – Outdoor Product Marketing, Acuity Brands Lighting. “In contrast, RADEAN outdoor luminaires use advanced lighting technology to provide uniform light distributions from a softer appearing light source.”
RADEAN luminaires achieve a more visually comfortable effect through a combination of a recessed light source that eliminates objectionable high-angle light, a uniformly luminous lens with low surface brightness, and a patented Transition Zone. The Transition Zone provides an intermediary luminous surface which creates a transition between the brighter light source and the darker night sky to drastically reduce the perception of glare while providing a softer appearance to the light source. In addition, the RADEAN area luminaire optics are engineered to eliminate hot spots of wasted light that can fall directly underneath a luminaire and, instead, redirect that light to eliminate the dark areas between luminaires.
All RADEAN luminaires are available in five different color temperatures ranging from the warm and inviting 2700K through 5000K for those areas requiring a brighter appearance. In addition, most of the RADEAN configurations are DesignLights Consortium® (DLC) Premium qualified products*, with efficacies up to 146 lumens per watt.
To maximize energy savings, RADEAN luminaires are available with an optional motion sensor that is concealed behind the lens. In addition, groups of RADEAN Post-Top and Arm Mount luminaires can be connected wirelessly to an nLight® AIR network from Acuity Brands to control dimming and scheduling from the ground using the ClAIRity™ app on a mobile phone or tablet.
RADEAN area luminaires are available in three distributions: symmetric—for centrally located poles, asymmetric—for perimeter mounted pole locations, and pathway—to maximize pole spacing along pedestrian walkways. RADEAN bollards are available in four standard heights, a choice of two tops and crowns and variety of standard or custom colors to match university or corporate branding.
