In 1982, the stadium made headlines when Notre Dame faced Michigan in a televised prime time game made possible by Musco’s revolutionary mobile lighting system. This time around, university officials turned to Musco for an LED sports lighting system that features the latest in energy efficiency, light control and sports entertainment capabilities.

“We are pleased to once again partner with Musco to equip one of our facilities, in this case the iconic Notre Dame Stadium, with an innovative and leading-edge lighting solution,” said Paul Kempf, Senior Director of Utilities and Maintenance, University of Notre Dame. “We are impressed with the performance, efficiency and controllability of this new system and look forward to the benefits it will provide for decades to come."

The new LED sports lighting system made its debut on Saturday, September 17 when Notre Dame played Michigan State showcasing a variety of different benefits:

• Precise Light Control – Customized optics direct light onto the field and minimize glare from shining into the eyes of athletes and fans
• Energy Savings – Instant on/off capabilities and dimming controls conserve energy and adjust light power output
• Energy Efficiency – System reduces energy consumption by 57 percent when compared to the previous lights
• Entertainment Experience – DMX special effects allow for spectacular pre-show and halftime lighting displays
• Unmatched Warranty – 10-year parts and labor warranty backed by a team of technicians eliminate maintenance costs and headaches

“We are extremely excited to collaborate with Notre Dame on yet another sports lighting installation,” said Jeff Rogers, President of Musco World. “The university’s commitment to entertainment innovation and sustainability will be fulfilled with a lighting system that reduces energy consumption and offers a premier visual experience for fans and television broadcasts.”

The university’s long-standing relationship with Musco spans more than 30 years and includes lighting systems installed at Purcell Pavilion (LED), Frank Eck Baseball Stadium, Alumni Soccer Stadium, Stinson Rugby Field and Melissa Cook Softball Stadium. These projects go along with the LED lighting upgrades Musco provided for the iconic World of Life Mural (known as “Touchdown Jesus”) and the Golden Dome.

Notre Dame Stadium now joins an extensive list of facilities that benefit from Musco’s LED lighting solutions, including the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium, the University of Alabama’s Sewell-Thomas Stadium and Arthur Ashe Stadium at the USTA’s Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
