TALQ Consortium updates its Pocket Guide for Smart Outdoor Lighting Tenders

March 11, 2016
Piscataway, NJ, USA / Frankfurt, Germany – The TALQ Consortium, which developed a global standard for interfaces to manage smart outdoor lighting networks, now grows support for cities and municipalities in ensuring forward-looking, cost and energy saving lighting tenders. During the Light + Building tradeshow in Frankfurt, Germany, TALQ is introducing the second and updated edition of the proven Pocket Guide for Smart Outdoor Lighting Tenders. The ‘Pocket Guide Edition #2’ is available in German and English, with other languages to follow soon.

In 2012 leading lighting industry players founded the TALQ Consortium to develop the TALQ Interface, aimed to become the global standard to connect and manage heterogeneous smart outdoor lighting networks and to guarantee full interoperability of hardware and software from different vendors. After finalising the test procedures and the successful first plug fest in December 2015, first systems are expected to be certified in the second half of 2016. The Light + Building trade show is a unique occasion for lighting professionals and public officers to learn more about the TALQ Specification and experience the intelligence and completeness of the TALQ test tool at first hand.

Renewing outdoor lighting networks and streetlight control systems is generally a challenge for cities, municipalities, utilities, operators and project developers as these installations are real long-term investments and in use for decades. Furthermore cities – whether on their way to become smart cities or not – have to take into consideration various aspects in the tendering process: maximizing energy savings, reducing carbon emissions, reducing the operational costs while increasing efficiency. Besides trying to foster competition and negotiate the best pricing, purchasers of fixed installations prefer to invest in open systems to guarantee future-proof solutions.

To support and ease tendering processes the TALQ Consortium is publishing a second, updated version of the Pocket Guide for Smart Outdoor Lighting Tenders. The document, now available in German and English, provides a comprehensive overview over the state-of-the-art technical requirements and offers wording examples for a complete and smart tendering document. The Pocket Guide for Smart Outdoor Lighting Tenders can be requested at the TALQ Consortium and is free of charge. Additional language versions will be available before summer 2016.
