University of San Diego selects Daktronics for LED display upgrade

Oct. 14, 2015
BROOKINGS, S.D. – The University of San Diego received new LED displays four times the size of their previous displays and new LED scorer’s tables that were designed, manufactured and installed by Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota. Installation of the displays was recently completed at Jenny Craig Pavilion in San Diego, California.

“We are thrilled with to have been able to expand our video boards in the Jenny Craig Pavilion at the University of San Diego to ensure a first-class experience for our guests,” said Josh Lawrence, associate athletic director, University of San Diego. “The experience during our NCAA competitions has improved dramatically, engaging fans with live video, instant replays, game stats and social media interaction. The Jenny Craig Pavilion has always been a beautiful, exciting and intimate environment to watch a game, and now we have the video technology to bring it all together.

“Daktronics employees were great to work with from the beginning, working to understand our needs and concerns and ensuring everything was delivered on time. The support we have received through our first events has been great as well, giving us peace of mind and the ability to make adjustments on the fly. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Daktronics and working closely to create even more amazing experiences for our guests, donors and athletes.”

Each main LED display measures approximately 11.5 feet high and 20 feet wide for approximately 225 square feet to replace the previous displays that each featured approximately 52 square feet. The new displays feature 10 millimeter line spacing, allowing for excellent image clarity and contrast with wide angle visibility ensuring a great viewing experience regardless of seating area. Variable content zoning technology allows the displays to show one large image across the whole display or multiple windows showing any combination of live video, instant replay, scoring, real time stats and sponsored content.

Five LED scorer’s tables, measuring approximately 3 feet high by 8.5 feet wide, were included in the installation. These tables feature 10 millimeter line spacing and can operate independently or be combined for a total width of approximately 44 feet of additional statistics and sponsorship messaging.

“We’re proud to continue our partnership with the University of San Diego for these upgrades to Jenny Craig Pavilion,” said Daktronics Sales Representative Eric Cain. “It’s great to be able to work with a long-time customer of 15 years to help them upgrade their video displays and overhaul their control room and front end video system. We’re excited to see everything continue to impact events this fall.”

Daktronics LED video and messaging display technology offers a long lifetime with consistent, industry-leading performance and low power consumption, providing value and excitement for years to come.
