Florida Gulf Coast University rides the wave with Nevco LED display and scoring system

Sept. 2, 2015
GREENVILLE, IL – The Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles will be rising to new heights this season with their new and improved upgrades to Alico Arena thanks to the state-of-the-art scoring and LED display solutions designed by Nevco.

The new Nevco equipment was unveiled at the Eagle Revolution party on Wednesday Aug. 19 at Alico Arena. The main attraction of the new equipment installed at “Dunk City” is a center hung, 4-sided, full color, Nevco LED display, which hangs prominently at center court. It is over 8 feet tall, over 12 feet wide, and features a 360 degree LED ring to ensure fans are fired up from any seat in the arena.

FGCU worked with Nevco to further customize the video display with the creation of a printed FGCU logo on the bottom and raised brushed 3D aluminum lettering for the corners of the display. The one-of-a-kind designed Eagle’s head and lettering make a distinct statement as you walk into the arena.

In addition to the massive, center-hung LED display, Nevco also provided the vibrant, 10mm full color LED Scorers’ Tables stretching along the sidelines and both baselines, End of Period lights shine on the backboards, Nevco’s new Slim Shot Clocks with LED game time are mounted for everyone to countdown to the buzzer, and two custom strip scoreboards with Electronic Team Names (ETN’s) fill the corners of the arena. The scoreboards featuring ETN’s were a necessity for FGCU, as they are used for intramurals and camps and will eventually be utilized for more practices as the Alico Arena expansion is completed.

Hidden away from the spectator’s eye, Nevco also equipped the arena with 9 locker room clocks and integrated their custom video “Display Director” software with the University’s ESPN3 Video production making the content even more compelling for fans and student-athletes alike. Nevco’s proprietary Display Director software allows FGCU’s game-day operations to be easily managed through one, universal, touchscreen operating system.

The new head-turning, center-hung LED display replaces a previously installed Daktronics scoreboard that stood since the Alico Arena opening in 2002. After an extensive and comprehensive proposal process, Nevco was selected as the vendor to provide all of the video and scoring equipment for the project.

Billy Blood, FGCU’s associate athletic director of internal affairs, assisted with the coordination and management of the project from start to finish and had this to add; “I would like to thank the Nevco team for their commitment and efforts in completing an extremely important project for Florida Gulf Coast University. Their attention to detail, facility solutions, competitive pricing, and comprehensive proposal factored into the University’s decision making process. This project will significantly enhance our game day atmosphere and have a lasting effect on all Alico Arena events. I am most excited about the impact this project will have on our student-athletes, coaches, fans, and the entire University community.”

Once Nevco was awarded the project, the skilled Nevco team collaborated with FGCU to create an atmosphere in the arena that provides fans a game time experience unlike any other.
