EVT's EyeSens MCI delivers multicolor inspection on LED manufacturing lines

March 12, 2015

The EyeSens MCI has been designed to measure objects for colour and intensity with the integrated EyeVision image processing software.

Nowadays illumination diodes are produced in all sorts of models and illuminants such as visible light, infrared and ultraviolet. For the inspection of LEDs on e.g. display units, devices or a printed circuit board assembly regarding color, intensity and functionality, an integrated inspection system is necessary.

In today’s routine test plants for electronic circuits or circuit boards with LEDs, there is the continuing question about the right function of LED and other display lights. The device under test has to be inspected for different parameters such as color, saturation and brightness (intensity) and also the functionality has to be checked. These requirements have been considered, when EVT developed its very own product line for the inspection of LED and multiple objects for colour and intensity. The EyeSens Multi Color Inspect (MCI) is – depending on the configuration – fit to carry out various inspections at the same time and it also presents the evaluation results as value or as Good/Bad signal to the user. Approximately 100 pixels per measurement point are used for determining the exact colour mixture. The energy spectrum of the EyeSens MCI allows an inspection of the color values, intensity and function of up to 100 measuring points. This also means that up to 100 fibres can be connected to one controller offering a very competitive price point. The system can configure each measurement point (fibre optic) individually for true colour RGB-I values and all 100 points can be measured simultaneously, within <1sec. By default the measuring is happening with a speed of 10 measurements per second and optionally with 30 measurements per second. If the results of every measuring point of the EyeSens MCI should be documented, the data can be forwarded with the RS232 or Ethernet interface per TCP/IP protocol to an superordinate inspection- or calculating system. Typical applications for the EyeSens MCI are: display-, indication- and frontpanel-test, as well as self-luminous object inspection, 7 segment display inspection and LED test. And also with an external light, a colour testing at multiple points is possible. EyeSens MCI can also be used for infrared and ultraviolet LEDs. And additionally the MCI can be used for different color spaces such as RGB, HSI and LALB. The sensor in the compact housing with the dimensions 170 x 105 x 100 mm (L x W x H) and a weight of 777g, can be delivered in different resolutions between 1280 x 1024 pixel and 5 Megapixel. The EyeSens MCI is also equipped with an integrated web server, to easily configure the system. With optionally available WLAN an easy and fast check via tablet or smart phone is also possible. By default the parameters of the system are assigned via a remote interface of the EyeVision software. But the system is also available with an interface for monitor and keyboard. And also the Profinet option is available.
