OSRAM opens skills development center for Penang LED plant

Date Announced: 07 May 2010 OSRAM Opto Semiconductors officially opens the OSRAM Skills Development Centre (OSDC) in Penang, Malaysia. The Centre will offer customized development programs to employees from the company’s LED manufacturing and wafer fabrication plants, especially in Asia. The training programs will create a highly skilled workforce ready for the challenges in the LED industry, enhancing the company in a strong position in this high growth market.The goal of the OSDC is to support the organization’s growth. It is not just focused on operational and technical skills but also on career, academic and leadership development. With trainers from local Malaysia and overseas, a full suite of operational, technical and managerial programs will be conducted to help employees progress in all areas of work.“The LED market has experienced explosive growth. Keeping pace in human resources is a critical factor in our success,” said Mr. Horst Rosenmueller, Managing Director of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors. “The OSDC provides the foundation for the company’s operations in Penang to achieve high performance in quality, cost and service.”By collaborating with the academia as well as technical and business communities from Malaysia and around the globe, the OSDC will help the organization in Penang to make further advances on product research, design and development. In the future, the Centre will look to extending the training programs beyond employees in the OSRAM facilities in Penang.
