Market forecast for LED signage & professional displays

Date Announced: 26 May 2009

Upper Lake, CA (USA) – ElectroniCast Consultants, a market & technology forecast consultancy, has announced the release of a new market forecast of the global market consumption of packaged Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) used in selected electric sign and display applications. The market data are segmented by geographic region, as well as into technology type: standard or conventional versus High Brightness LEDs.

According to the study results, the global consumption value LEDs used in signage & professional displays in 2008 was over $1.1 billion. High-Brightness (HB) LEDs, in 2008, represented a 55 percent share of worldwide consumption value of LEDs used in signage & professional displays. The HB-LED market share is forecasted to increase to 60 percent and increase in value in 2013.

“LED-based (electronic) billboards allows for multiple advertising messages to share the same sign space, which of course drives additional revenue potential, without the labor of continually replacing traditional vinyl or painted signs,” said Stephen Montgomery president of Asia Pacific at ElectroniCast. “LED-based signage and displays, enables real time message delivery, which is critical for public emergency announcements and other useful information,” Montgomery said.
