Show management led by Tracy Bowie, MMPI Vice President in charge of IIDEX/NeoCon Canada and Light Canada, reports that the interest in Light Canada has been increasing steadily since its rebirth in 2007, seeing an increase in both attendees and exhibitors. The 2008 event saw over 100 lighting-specific exhibitors and over 15,000 attendees.

With expansion plans for 2009 as IIDEX/NeoCon Canada celebrates its 25th anniversary, over 16,000 are expected to attend and visit with over 100 exhibitors at Light Canada alone.

Some of the 2009 lighting exhibitors offering LED lighting products include Canlyte, CRS, Edison, GE, GO Lighting, Illumineer, Lightolier, Luxo, Magiclite, Osram Sylvania, Philips, Ruud Lighting, Rainbow Lighting, Rutenberg Sales, Salex/Marnik and Schreder.

In 2008, GO Lighting, a Canadian SSL manufacturer, took top honours from the Interior Designers of Canada in the LED Lighting category, walking way with 3 Innovation Awards, winning a Gold, Silver and Bronze for 3 of their products.

Attendees from all industry disciplines and buyers and specifiers, such as architects, interiors designers, lighting designers, engineers, facility and building managers can learn and earn Lighting Certified (LC) education credits at over 10 lighting seminars on the hottest lighting topics such as design, sustainable lighting, healthcare lighting, LED lighting for interior and exterior use plus many more topics.

The lighting seminar stream is organized by IES Toronto Section and IIDEX/NeoCon Canada and also includes internationally acclaimed light artist Stephen Knapp who will dazzle attendees with his Lighting Keynote presentation “Lightpaintings in Art and Architecture.”

Light Canada will feature a Toronto first, a state-of-the-art sustainable light art installation, designed by Knapp. An annual event, the Light Canada / IES Toronto Gala, will be held on Saturday, September 26 at the Pantages Hotel.

In 2008, Toronto’s greenTbiz, a leader in solid-state lighting education, presented a panel that discussed the specification of LED lighting and the complete retrofit of 44 floors of the Palace pier condominium with LED lighting, at which both Palace Pier Board President, Jim Lord and Interior Designer, Heather Ann Scott were presented with a Certificate of Recognition for their leadership from Peter Love, Ontario’s Chief Energy Conservation Officer.

This year greenTbiz will be releasing its new Buying Guide for Solid-State Lighting (see Solid-state education for the LED Nation!) and presenting a free series of short briefings on how to buy SSL, acquire the necessary data from manufacturers and how to read the data.
