ilumisys, Altair obtain favorable ruling on LED lighting technology patent
10 Dec 2008
An issued patent made claims related to replacing fluorescent tubes with LEDs, and these claims were revoked based on ilumisys’ existing patent.
ilumisys Inc., developer and producer of next-generation solid-state lighting technology, announced on behalf of its parent company Altair Engineering that a favorable ruling was received from the United States Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences relative to Patent Interference Number 105,602.

Altair’s application in interference is related to Altair’s fundamental patent for replacement of fluorescent light tubes with LED technology. The judgment ordered all claims of interfering patent number 6,860,628 to be cancelled and further established Altair as having precedent claims.

"ilumisys has a significant body of patent work related to our technology," said ilumisys President Dave Simon. "We’re pleased with this ruling and look forward to continuing to develop the leading-edge lighting technology in the LED-based lighting industry."

ilumisys, formed in 2007, is a spinoff of Altair, a global software and technology company that has a growing presence in the energy market. With support from Altair, ilumisys has a deep research and development background. The company recently expanded its reseller network to include companies covering the Northeast, Midwest and West Coast territories.
