This takes the cake! It looks like the incandescent bulb is cooked!
25 Jul 2007
A toy that uses an incandescent bulb to bake a cake has been recalled, reports Brian Owen.
What may be one of the last bastions for the A type incandescent light bulb may surely be threatened and facing its demise according to news of late. Already an endangered species with the ongoing development and performance of Compact Fluorescent (CFL) technology and of course ever improving performance of LEDs, the lonely incandescent is now taking the heat in a toy.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Hasbro, Inc., has announced a voluntary recall of the Easy-Bake Ovens. The Easy-Bake Oven uses a 100-watt A type incandescent to bake little cakes in the toy.

"Children can be burned or get their hands and fingers caught if they put them into the recalled Easy Bake Oven's front opening. There have been numerous reports of entrapments, and there have been burns with this oven," said Julie Vallese, from the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

That surely speaks to the issue of heat created by and electricity energy wasted by incandescent technology, the greatest percentage overcome with LED technology. Thankfully, because LED does not radiate heat, it not expected to see this application change to LED to bake this cake.
