The i-LED device emits at 365 nm, corresponding to the so-called i-line of a conventional mercury lamp.

Nichia says that the UV LEDs are expected to be used in various applications, for example UV-curing, photo-catalysis and others.

Compared with mercury lamps, the i-LED has a very narrow spectrum, is compact and impact resistant and has instant on-off capability. It also has a long lifetime, it's power is adjustable by current (rather than using shutters) and it operates at low temperature.

And of course, it is mercury-free.
