Lexedis unveils high-CRI powerXED emitter
16 Nov 2007
Lexedis Lighting has developed a tri-band phosphor that enables Ra of 90 in warm white, with good rendering of red colors.
Small form-factor
Lexedis has launched its powerXED emitter, delivering up to 60 lumens for cool white at a rated current of 350 mA.

The warm-white version of the device has a color rendering index (Ra) of up to 90, thanks to the use of a tri-band phosphor. Lexedis has branded this as indeXED 90.

The powerXED is available in four standard correlated color temperatures (CCT) of 3000 K, 4200 K, 5700 K and 6500 K. The product takes advantage of Zero Colour Binning developed by Lexedis; the company says this ensures that, at any value of CCT, there is no discernable difference in color temperature and color rendition between different LEDs.

The package has a very small form-factor, measuring 2.5 mm x 2.5 mm x 0.6 mm, the same as the company's nanoXED emitter. The chip-in-silicon packaging with good thermal properties, and the use of all-inorganic materials ensures durability, reliability and a long service life in excess of 50,000 hours. The powerXED has a 120° Lambert beam pattern.

For powerXED, Lexedis has developed a three-band phosphor (see spectrum). Lexedis says that, unlike other one-band or two-band phosphors, the new phosphor provides good long-term stability, a good light output ratio and a large red component (R12). The absence of a red com¬ponent in other phosphors leads to an unsatisfactory color ren¬dition of red tones even with a high overall Ra value.

The device’s high Ra is expected to fulfill the requirements of architects, lighting designers and lighting engineers for high-performance light sources by exceeding the Ra of 70-80 prevalent in fluorescent lighting

The high-CRI powerXED emits a quality of natural light which makes it a suitable choice for application in retail, medical and dental lighting as well as both linear architectural and façade lighting applications.
