| Xiamen EDI Technologies (EDI-T), based in Xiamen, China, has developed a patented battery-free LED Shakelight containing a single high-power LED.
The flashlight is powered by 90 seconds of horizontal shaking; this causes a magnet to move inside a coil, and the resulting charge is captured by an energy storage device which can then be used to power the LED light source.
An EDI-T spokesperson told LEDs Magazine that the company imports Cree's LED chips, which are packaged by a factory in China.
The flashlight provides 1-2 hours of bluish-white LED light of 10,000 lux at initial switch-on, and has a light beam with a circular diameter of 4.6 ft (1.4m) at 5-10m distance.
