According to a report in the Japanese newspaper Nikkei Business Daily, Toyoda Gosei has developed a ceramic package capable of dissipating heat from LEDs driven by up to 500 mA.

As a result, the company has unveiled LEDs in extremely small packages measuring just 3.4 x 2.8 x 1.2 mm.

The TG High Power True White II contains a near-UV chip with red, green and blue phosphors, producing a "natural" light that is likely to be in demand for applications such as illuminating showrooms.

The TG High Power White II combines a blue chip with a yellow phosphor, and is extremely bright; it is likely to be marketed to streetlight manufacturers.

Samples are expected to begin shipping in December, with mass production and sales slated to begin in April 2005. Pricing is expected to be the same or slighting lower than conventional products.
