| A group of 16 lighting designers met with the US Department of Energy (DOE) on March 19 to examine the solid-state lighting (SSL) market, debate technology issues, and encourage a discussion of the designers’ recommendations regarding the SSL industry.
The DOE recently released a report on the roundtable discussion, held in Chicago, Illinois, which was also hosted by The International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA).
When welcoming the designers to the roundtable discussion, the DOE’s James Brodrick, SSL portfolio manager, emphasized that the lighting design community is a critical part of the complex process of getting SSL into the marketplace. He said that the DOE intends to share designer feedback from the meeting with researchers, manufacturers, and product designers to help improve the whole process of getting products to market.
