Pulling LED products into the market
Understanding the requirements of the lighting design community is a key challenge in trying to gain acceptance for LEDs in lighting markets, as LEDs Magazine discussed with Eddie Effron of Permlight Products.
Osram Opto Semiconductors offers an extensive LED portfolio for general lighting
LEDs are so versatile and compact that they can provide light almost anywhere. They can be integrated in a wide variety of lighting systems and even in transparent materials, offering bright light in any colour. These miniature light sources consume very little energy and will last up to 100,000 hours. Wherever these properties are needed, LEDs are a viable alternative to conventional lighting.
Benefits and drawbacks of LEDs
LEDs offer a huge variety of benefits but at the same time they cannot be viewed as the optimum solution for every lighting-related application. Here, in no particular order, we list some of the main advantages of LEDs, together with some of the challenges faced by these devices.
