Antwerp - Xiamen Yankon Energetic Lighting Co., Ltd won the "SEAD Global Efficiency Medal" with the LED A-Bulb 806 lumen LED retrofit lamp as a replacement for a 60W incandescent bulb. The prize, with which the production and sales of super-efficient appliances are to be encouraged, was awarded for the first time for lighting products, because of the high global electricity consumption of grid-based lighting.
In an awards ceremony on June 24, 2015 at the United Nations Environment Programme in Paris, the winning products of the 4th SEAD Global Efficiency Medal were announced. In Europe the A-Bulb 806 lumen LED retrofit lamp (YKA60C2-9.5W) of Energetic Lighting Europe NV, a subsidiary of Chinese lighting manufacturer Xiamen Yankon Energetic Lighting Co., Ltd, was awarded because it demonstrated the greatest energy efficiency in this region. Representative for Energetic Lighting Will Smits (vice president sales Europe) and Marc van Hoof (senior marketing & product manager Europe) received the SEAD award.
The awarded A-Bulb 806 lumen LED retrofit lamp from Energetic Lighting is a replacement for a 60W incandescent bulb, equipped with state-of-the-art energy saving LED technology. The product is part of the A-series, which contains LED bulbs with the familiar incandescent look and that are a problem-free LED replacement for traditional bulbs and sockets. “This award is a special recognition of our research and development activities in LED products”, explains Will Smits proudly and sees the prize as a confirmation of the company strategy focussing on customer needs and a permanent improvement of the product assortment and production facilities. “Guiding principle of our company was always to develop and to produce real energy saving alternatives for traditional lighting products.”
The SEAD medal, that has been awarded in the categories television, computer monitors, electric motors and lighting, was introduced to encourage the production and sales of super-efficient appliances. The first SEAD prize started in 2012 to award the production of the most energy efficient televisions. Award winners so far were amongst others Samsung, LG and Siemens. With grid-based lighting accounting for 15%–19% of global electricity consumption, in 2015 lighting products have been honored for the first time.
