Kemps Architectural Lighting provides standard and custom LED luminaires for London's King's Cross Station

Over recent months, London's famous King’s Cross Square has received something of a makeover and the result is truly inspiring.

Kemps Architectural Lighting were specified by commissioned designers, StudioFRACTAL, to provide both standard and bespoke LED luminaires for the project – something the Yorkshire based manufacturer has begun to gain quite an impressive reputation for producing.

Aesthetically the result is stunning, but it has also had an incredible impact on the building and the way people now use the space. What once was a hectic place has been transformed into an area where people can sit and relax at all times of day, with the clever use of indirect and direct light creating a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.

The building’s imposing stature provides the striking backdrop with the design based on the idea of maximising views of the beautifully illuminated grade 1 listed structure.

Not only is it impressive to look at, the project has maximised the reduced energy consumption and longer life span synonymous with LED lighting solutions. It’s also the first large scale public realm project in the UK to use only LED technology.

Kemps were also specified to provide luminaires for the newly improved, low energy LED lighting for the world famous clock at the top of the building's façade.

Chris Sutherland, the lighting designer responsible for the project said of the decision to specify Kemps for the LED products used in the project:

"At the time of specifying the LED products for this project, Kemps were one of few leading manufacturers that could provide the range of luminaire profiles and lumen outputs we required. Of course today they have more competition, but they continue to lead the way with their linear lighting products."
