Midwest Museum Sustainable Lighting Symposium held at The Field Museum in Chicago

The Midwest Museum Sustainable Lighting Symposium was held on Friday, September 12th at the Field Museum in Chicago, IL. The comprehensive and interactive event, which hosted Museum professionals from around the United States, explored the questions and possibilities opened by rapidly developing LED technologies and their transformative impact on the museum lighting industry.

World renowned designers and researchers presented their findings on Sustainable Lighting and Conservation. Keynote speakers included: Scott Rosenfeld LC, IESNA, Lighting Designer at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and Renwick Gallery: "How to Change a Light Bulb" and
Steven Weintraub, Art Preservation Services: "What Can a Light Bulb Do."

The symposium, which ran from 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM, featured a guided tour of select galleries in the Field Museum by Lighting Designer Thatcher Waller, Lightswitch Architectural as well as a hands-on session by Lighting Designer Kevan Shaw, Kevan Shaw Lighting Design which focused on color preference in the museum and gallery space. Presentations included the "Science of Color and Quality of Light" by Rohit Patil, Xicato and an educational lecture on "LED Applications, Big, Small and New" by Lighting Designer Avraham Mor, IALD, LEED BD+C, Lightswitch Architectural.
