Asco Lights' LED retrofit for London's Namaste Lounge restaurant addresses linear lighting challenges

July 8, 2014
The hugely talented and passionate design team at Asco lights once again delivered outstanding results for the hugely successful Namaste Lounge Restaurant in London. The project was a full new fit out refurbishment. Attention to detail, precision, expertly focussed, are some of the qualities that the team at Asco Lights possess that sets them truly apart from their rival competitors. This project was a huge renovation of their current site and involved Asco working alongside the team at Namaste lounge throughout as well as liaising with their designers, architect and electricians on site to ensure they created the best design for the team and the design outcome.

The brief for the project was to make this restaurant stand out from the crowd and after visiting Namaste Lounge we got a true understanding of the look and feel they wanted to go for and we have reflected this within our lighting design opting for a vintage meets modern look. We have done this by using a range of products from smart architectural fittings to ultra- glam Black and gold fittings.

For the general functional lighting element in this area we used recessed baffle square black downlights with a gold internal reflector in order to reduce the glare but also to create the warmth and opulence the client wanted as an end result. This worked extremely well as the ceilings were painted a dark charcoal colour resulting in the downlight almost disappearing into the ceiling. The light source we used was a LED running at 2700k in order to maximise the warmth and the ambience. Several ground LED uplighters were used in order to highlight key architectural features within the restaurant and a black glass facia was used with an anti-glare lens resulting in reduction of glare and a more subtle lighting effect, with an 8 degree beam. The black mini pendants with a 63 degree beam were used over the bar area with a gold insert to marry in with the other black and gold products used throughout.

The lighting design process carried out by Asco Lights entails careful meticulous planning and coordination as very innovative concepts and lighting solutions were used in order to deliver the desired look. As you can see, the clever use of several RGB products allowed the ambience of the restaurant to be changed by the click of a button to reflect the function carried out within each particular area of the restaurant which was divided into the following areas; bar, restaurant, VIP area, casual dining and dance floor. The mix of the decorative items with the architectural lighting simply worked to create outstanding results.

The project posed many challenges for the team at Asco with a challenging linear theme with the unique profiles running up the wall and across the ceiling. The issue was finding a suitable solution with direct light. The team found a way of doing this by incorporating an aluminium channel with an LED diffuser to create that direct light but also to eliminate the problematic ‘dotting’ effect that LED tape can give out.

Both the client and the team at Asco Lights feel very proud with the results that have been achieved and this is a clear demonstration of how a partnership approach between a lighting design company and the clients simply work.

A few words from the team- “How did you find the challenges within the project and what did you think of the outcome?”
The Asco Lights Design Team – We were thrilled with the outcome of this amazing project and think the black and gold theme throughout worked brilliantly. Our main challenge was finding the best solution for the strip profiles running up the wall and ceiling which were the focal point of the design. Despite any issues, the outcome was incredible and it created a real feature within the bar area. This coupled with the RGB colour change lighting creates drama, atmosphere and mood and sets the restaurant apart from others.

Ajay Vasdev- Managing Director - One of the main challenges was working with a number of key decision makers who were involved with the project and interpreting their needs and desired outcomes and in order to deliver a scheme that fulfilled their criteria whilst still being flexible enough and specific to their needs. Overall, the teams result was sheer brilliance and an outstanding case study that really demonstrated the absolute necessity to work with a professional lighting design and consultancy from start to finish.
