Acuity Brands' Peerless introduces Staple LED luminaires with comfort optics, flicker-free dimming

April 16, 2014
BERKELEY, CA -- Peerless® -- a leading designer and manufacturer of architectural luminaires and one of the innovative lighting brands under the Acuity Brands, Inc. (NYSE: AYI) umbrella -- announces the introduction of the Staple LED suite of suspended and wall-mount luminaires.

"Whether in schools, offices, stores or other interiors, Peerless believes everyone who spends the majority of their days indoors deserves quality lighting," says Peerless Value Stream Manager Kai Jaffe. "With Staple LED, we're not only offering kind-to-the-eyes illumination at a budget-friendly value, we're delivering a true LED lighting system with all the essentials."

Staple LED luminaires are fully integrated Peerless 360? lighting systems incorporating:

- High-performance Staple LED luminaires
- Softshine® comfort optics
- Flicker-free dimming to black powered by eldoLED® drivers
- Energy-saving nLight® sensor and controls options
- Single-source warranty by and support from Acuity Brands covering all components and construction

To provide true architectural quality dimming and help save energy, Staple LED luminaires feature a 0 to 10V, flicker-free eldoLED driver that is fully dimmable to black (0.1%), and the option to include an embedded nLight sensor for daylight dimming and occupancy detection control.

Staple LED luminaires emit comfortable, glare-free illumination. Following propriety Softshine optical engineering standards from Peerless, the luminaires produce quality lighting that contributes to visual well-being; helps promote workplace productivity and classroom learning; and, in typical applications, meets Illuminating Engineering Society recommended practices for education facilities and offices as well as Collaborative for High Performance Schools' best practices.

What's more, the advanced dimming capabilities inside Staple LED luminaires set a new standard in architectural dimming by enabling users to enjoy ideal illumination at any level for each and every lighting scenario. The 0 to 10V eldoLED driver inside Staple LED luminaires provide smooth and seamless dim-to-black dimming down to 0.1% and automatic fade-to-black dimming when powering off. This natural dimming attains the deepest dimming levels without dropout, without a visual flash when powering on and, most importantly, without flicker.

To reduce energy use and meet building power density requirements, Staple LED luminaires produce up to 120 lm/W and use as little as 0.39 W/ft2 in typical applications. With this kind of operational efficiency, commissioning Staple LED luminaires may contribute toward a building’s LEED certification by helping to reduce overall energy consumption.

To boost efficiency further, Staple LED luminaires can also be specified with nLight digital controls to provide system networking, energy-saving digital lumen management or both. In the suspended model, an optional built-in nLight module allows for easy Cat-5 “plug-and-play” connectivity with nLight control and sensor systems. For wall models, a standalone Sensor Switch® nLight module can be ordered from Acuity Controls to install inside walls. The digital lumen management option provides constant lumen output, extends LED longevity and saves roughly 10 percent in energy use over the lifetime of the luminaire.

Staple LED luminaires are available with nominal delivered-lumen packages ranging from 1700 to 4500, three LED color temperature options and with direct and multiple indirect-direct distributions. Two end cap options are available, rounded and squared, and the luminaires come standard in either white, black or painted aluminum finishes.

Offered in 4-foot, 8-foot and 12-foot lengths, Staple LED luminaires can be installed as individual units or joined together to form continuous runs. Staple LED luminaires deliver an expected 50,000 hours (12 to 15 years) of illumination to L80. They are IES LM-79 tested, CSA/CUS listed, FCC Part 15 certified and feature a Lighting Facts® label issued by the U.S. Department of Energy.

All Peerless luminaires, including the Staple LED suite, are available nationally through Acuity Brands sales representatives and authorized distributors. For additional information, please visit the Acuity Brands and Peerless websites.
