Orange County, CA – MRI scanners utilize powerful magnets capable of propelling ferrous metal objects at extremely high velocities. They also emit powerful radio frequency (RF) pulses that can interfere with electronic equipment, including medical lighting. Additionally, machine generated images can be compromised by externally generated RF emissions. As a result, MRI suites must be free of ferrous metals. Traditional low voltage incandescent light sources have been used for these spaces, but this approach has significant restrictions including fixed lumen levels, extremely short lamp life and high energy cost. “Our patented technology is the perfect solution for MRI suites,” said Rick Farrell, president of C3 Lighting.

C3 Lighting’s proprietary Remote Power & Control has solved the most difficult of challenges faced by healthcare designers today in terms of implementing and managing LED medical lighting. RF/EMI complications in MRI suites have proven to be the most challenging for healthcare designers due to the scanning equipment’s sensitivity to radio frequency interference (RF). C3 Lighting, Inc. has developed a networked system that places the power, dimming control, scheduling and energy management for LED medical lighting in a single, centrally located device separate from the LED fixtures and outside of the MRI/Radiology suite.

C3’s Remote Power & Control includes microprocessor control, on-board memory and a clock-calendar allowing scheduling when LED medical lighting will be on or off, changing the color of light output, programming “dawn-to-dusk” illumination, and monitoring energy usage. This technology can power and control up to 50,000 watts of DC power and interfaces with most industry standard lighting control systems. Control can be wired or wireless and will also accept DMX commands.
