FuturoLighting's 20W DC LED module is engineered for general lighting and smart lighting designs

March 16, 2015
Piestany – FuturoLighting, a company focused on LED lighting solutions, introduces an extension to its range of smart LED lighting solutions. The smart DC LED module connects the most recent LED technology together with a smart DC driver, offering a ready-made solution for fixture producers, researchers, and hobbyists. The module is populated on a metal core PCB, implementing LEDs and a high efficiency driver with thermal foldback and dimming.
The advantage of the module is on-board thermal foldback, with active control of the maximum temperature of the module. However, the implemented driver has small dimensions; it operates at high efficiency above 94% and accepts input voltages up to 60 VDC. Even in a situation of failed (shorted) LEDs, its efficiency is still high enough to keep the remaining LEDs operating correctly.

Connection of the modules to a power supply and controls is realized by three marked solder terminals. Several modules can be paralleled and connected to central or individual constant voltage power supply (48 VDC) and thus forming a lighting fixture or grid according your specific needs. This DC LED module can be easily used together with control accessories from FuturoLighting. Due to the implemented thermal foldback module, it will never get overheated and therefore its lifetime is not affected by inappropriate installation or inappropriate environment (it's thermally safe even without a heat sink). Once the module temperature is higher than the set temperature (Tset), the driver decreases current flowing to the LEDs, thus reducing power consumption and keeping temperature constant. This current change is continual and does not disturb visual perception. Flux amount as well as module consumption can be controlled by a dimming signal that can be fast pulsewidth modulation (PWM; 0-5 V, from a microcontroller, or MCU) or analog (regular dimmers 1-10V, isolated). On request there are several other control options available, including protected PWM input and different analog signal levelling.

From the price point of view, the smart LED module assembled with Cree XT-E with output flux >2300 lm (LED hot efficiency >110 lm/W) @ Tsp = 70°C, CCT = 4000K, CRI >70, ranges at 14.9 E / pc @ 1k quantity. Based on customer needs we are able to populate modules with different LED brands and types including white, color, IR, and UV LEDs.

The smart LED module has dimensions of 145x43 mm and total height only 4.1 mm with goal to fit into thin street optics 2x6. The distance between LEDs is 25.4 mm and MCPCB thickness is 1.5 mm. The DC LED module is compatible with optics from Ledil, Carclo, and other producers, and it can be customized, according to your needs, on request including dimensions and LED positioning. The module will find application in LED low bay, high bay, street lighting, wall washers, plant growing operations, UV curing, IR security vision, and in other special lighting products and applications. The LED module is customizable and the customer can select the LED brand, light color (R, G, B, IR, UV, and their combination for research and other scientific purposes), CCT, CRI, flux bin, and drawing current as well. Just need to add central or individual 48 VDC power supply and connect as many modules as you need to create a lighting system. The required power source should be calculated as module count x 22W, for example 4 smart LED modules will need min 90W power supply.
