Universal Event Productions invests in LED lighting products from SGM for entertainment and events

April 7, 2014
Tring, UK based rental and technical solution specialist Universal Event Productions (UEP) has invested in more LED technology -- this time from Danish-owned manufacturer SGM -- to service their ongoing work and with some elements also specifically earmarked for the 2014 Chilfest event – UEP’s very own highly successful summer music festival.

The latest purchase involves SGM XC5 RGB LED strobes, SP-6 SixPack pixel blinders and P-5 outdoor LED wash lights, all of which were delivered by SGM UK.

It also underlines UEP’s ongoing commitment to investing in greener technology and using this where possible on shows and events. UEP was an early adopter of LED and digital lighting and around 80% of its lighting rental stock is now LED based.

Says UEP’s Steve Butcher, “With events becoming increasingly carbon-conscious for us it makes sense. The core of UEP’s work is in the high end corporate sector, an area where many brands are taking their green credentials very seriously in all aspects”.

That aside, from a lighting company rental perspective LED brings all the advantages of greater flexibility for multiple applications including imaginatively lighting in venues with limited power supplies, lower maintenance … and the great ROI that comes with good quality LED sources.

For the Chilfest event, the SGM P-5s will be used specifically to illuminate the foliage and trees at the back of the Chilfest stage in Pendley Meadow, Tring when the event is staged in July.

“We are blessed with having an area of outstanding natural beauty as a backdrop to the Chilfest,” explains Butcher, “And this year we intend to accentuate? this with scenic lighting so everyone can enjoy the unique setting at dusk and in darkness”.

The IP 65 rated P-5 will be perfect for the job. The fixture takes SGM’s popular Palco 5 as a design base for the low-profile, rectangular, full-colour wash unit utilizing 44 x RGBW 10W LEDs. Combined with its small footprint, the power consumption is reduced to just 410W!

The new SGM lightsources join UEP’s other premium LED brands which include Robe and James Thomas plus Glux LED screen products.

Also with Chilfest in mind, UEP has purchased 12 x Robe ColorSpot 1200E AT moving lights from DPL. “These are in mint condition and I have hired them many times... so I thought I might as well buy them,” says Butcher.

Chilfest is a brand new boutique music festival concept launched in 2013 by UEP to celebrate its 15th anniversary. The event was such a success that Steve Butcher decided to stage it again this year, expanded by adding an extra day due to popular demand.
