Date Announced: 04 May 2009 Future Engineers Help Design Light Engine to Replace Original HID Lamp MONTREAL, QUEBEC - The LED upgrades recently introduced for Hadco Lighting’s widely adopted family of 100W and 175W refractive post top fixtures were developed in conjunction with Future Lighting Solutions utilizing LUXEON® Rebel LEDs from Philips Lumileds. Future’s optical, thermal and electrical engineers assisted Hadco in designing LED boards that can direct light properly through the distinctive prisms of Hadco’s refractive globes. Those prisms are cut for a 360-degree metal halide light source, bending the light horizontally for maximum coverage, minimum light trespass, glare control and shadow reduction on roadways and walkways lit by Hadco post tops. Future’s challenge was to develop a board design that provided similar refraction capabilities with the directional LED beam. Future’s services included LED selection, optical modeling, performance optimization, system lifetime calculation, LED and component supply, and manufacturing referrals. The resulting Hadco LumiLock LED module – consisting of four rectangular ‘light bars’ housing one or two 10-LED boards each - can be swapped on-site with the original HID assembly in a matter of minutes using Hadco’s patented “twist-lock” mechanism for tool-less disconnect and reconnect of the wiring system. By switching to the LED light source, municipalities, utilities and commercial developers can reduce power consumption by 55 to 60%, as well as lengthen lamp life from 48 months with the original HID bulbs to a typical 14 years with the LED retrofit.
