COMPANY PROFILE: Flomerics Inc. – Thermal Simulation Software and Services for LED products

Feb. 27, 2007
Flomerics is a world-leading player in the rapidly expanding fields of simulation and computer-aided engineering (CAE). We provide engineering simulation software and services for analysis of fluid flow, heat transfer and electromagnetic radiation.

Using Flomerics’ software and consultancy services, customers accelerate and optimize their design processes by predicting the behavior of proposed designs before building physical prototypes. Flomerics' business model is drastically different from traditional analysis because our software is designed to be embedded deeply into the design process and used by mainstream design engineers, not just by analysis specialists.

Flomerics’ software products and services are based around four distinct lines of business:

Electronics cooling

Flomerics is the clear market leader in thermal simulation of electronic equipment, with a client list including virtually all the major electronics companies in the world. We provide an integrated suite of software tools for thermal analysis of individual IC packages, circuit boards, and complete electronic systems.

Our software removes communication barriers between electrical and mechanical engineers enabling fast resolution of thermal management problems that are traditionally difficult, expensive and time-consuming to resolve. Through our MicReD subsidiary we offer thermal testing equipment that complements the software simulation business.

T3Ster (pronounced "Trister") is an advanced thermal tester from Flomerics/MicReD that is used in the thermal characterization of semiconductor chip packages. Using a smart implementation of the JEDEC static-test method (JESD51-1), T3Ster forces a packaged semiconductor chip from a cool to hot state using a single step change in input power and uses the internal transient temperature response curves to generate a complete thermal characterization of a semiconductor chip package in just a few minutes.

TERALED provides combined thermal and radiometric/photometric characterization of high-power LEDs. The system can be used as a stand-alone optical measurement system for LEDs, or as an add-on to Trister (see also MicReD Offers TERALED Tester for Optical and Thermal LED Measurements).

Engineering fluid dynamics (EFD)

Flomerics’ EFD product family is a new breed of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software that enables mechanical design engineers to analyze and optimize complex fluid flow and heat transfer processes across a wide range of products and industries.

Electromagnetics

Predicting 3D high-frequency electromagnetic radiation is an increasingly important requirement for many different industries and application areas. Understanding and optimizing the performance of antenna and microwave devices for all types of wireless systems is crucial for the telecommunications, military, automotive and aerospace industries.

Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC)

Flomerics’ FLOVENT software predicts 3D airflow, heat transfer and contamination distribution in and around buildings of all types and sizes. The software is tailored for building designers, with an easy-to-use menu system developed specifically for the design and optimization of heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems.
