Lighting end products weren’t the sole focus at LightFair International (LFI) 2015. Solid-state lighting (SSL) enabling technologies found their own spotlight during the conference and exhibition. LEDs Magazine chief editor Maury Wright stopped by the Lutron booth to discuss the ever-evolving LED driver with design and development leader Ethan Biery.

Biery introduced the EcoSystem H Series LED driver that addresses a concern from some users transitioning to LED-based SSL: a noticeable drop in light output when LED drivers dim down to 10% or 1%, rather than the smooth dimming they experienced with incandescent lighting and legacy dimming technology. EcoSystem H-Series LED drivers deliver “dim to black” and “soft on” features.

He demonstrated a variety of LED light sources in conjunction with the new LED drivers, showing a higher level of dimming granularity – smooth, continuous dimming and a smooth transition between on and off. The H-Series was introduced for the first time at LFI.

Wright and Biery also discussed LED drivers available for various SSL scenarios that do not require such a high level of dimming granularity, such as the EcoSystem 5-Series and the Hi-Lume A-Series.

The additional driver offerings are intended to provide options for various value-to-application scenarios, where the higher level of granularity may not be as much of a necessity.
