On February 8, 2011, the US Department of Energy (DOE) will host a 90-minute live webcast presenting a summary of Caliper Round 11 testing. The results of each Caliper round form a snapshot of SSL technology status, identifying market trends and issues related to SSL product performance.
Round 11 looked at five applications: arm-mounted roadway luminaires, post-top roadway luminaires, linear replacement lamps, high-bay luminaires, and small replacement lamps.
In this webcast, Mia Paget from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory will provide an overview of Round 11 results and key observations. For example:
- Overall, Round 11 showed a steady increase in average overall efficacy over previous rounds, as well as some improvement in the accuracy of performance claims – especially for those products carrying the Lighting Facts® label.
- Although half of the LED outdoor luminaires tested matched or exceeded their benchmark counterparts in efficacy, most showed significant variations in color characteristics as compared to their rated CCT, and their distribution characteristics also varied widely.
- While the LED linear replacement lamps tested showed improvement, especially in terms of efficacy, they still have some major performance issues in the areas of light distribution, color quality, and reliability.
The webcast on February 8 will begin promptly at 1:00 pm ET and will include a 60-minute presentation, followed by a 30-minute question and answer session with attendees.
