Lutron stairwell LED fixture reduces energy usage by 90%

The new stairwell LED fixture automatically adjusts light output based on stairwell occupancy to reduce lighting electricity use by 90% in most applications.
Lutron Electronics, a lighting control manufacturer based in Coopersburg, PA has introduced new LED models in its stairwell fixture family. Using an integral Lutron LED driver and control and communicating wirelessly via Lutron Radio Powr Savr wireless sensors, the fixtures can achieve a 90% reduction in lighting energy use as a retrofit solution in most stairwell applications. This calculation is based on the replacement of a 2-ft T12 lamp that uses 30W at full output for 8760 hours with an LED stairwell fixture that uses 17W at 50% output for 2190 hours and 10% output for 6570 hours.
All models in the Lutron stairwell fixture solution family use a Lutron digital dimmer, and either a digital fluorescent dimming ballast or LED driver.

In fluorescent fixtures, Lutron offers 2-ft, 3ft and 4-ft lamps as T8, T5-HE or T5-HO, in single or dual lamp options.

The new LED fixtures are pre-programmed to occupied and unoccupied light levels and these presets can be easily adjusted by the user to meet specific project code requirements. The solution’s design features separate fixture and sensor components, which allow the determination of appropriate occupancy sensor quantities, mounting configuration, and placement requirements based on the stairwell design.

The new LED fixture ships complete with an LED assembly, saving time and ensuring that the fixture is ready to install. The fixture includes a concealed Lutron wireless dimmer that receives a signal from Lutron’s Radio Powr Savr occupancy sensors via Lutron Clear Connect RF technology to provide automatic lighting control.

Stairwell LED fixtures feature an architectural design, and a lamp life of more than 50,000 hours, resulting in lower maintenance costs than comparable fluorescent stairwell fixtures. Two-foot models are currently available in a 17W, 1500-lm version and a 30W, 2400-lm version. Both feature a color temperature of 4000K. The stairwell fixtures will ship by the end of December 2012.

Additionally, stairwell fixture solutions help buildings meet codes and standards (ASHRAE 90.1 2010 and IgCC), and also maximize energy savings in every stairwell by reducing lights to minimum levels when the stairwell is unoccupied, and immediately turning lights on when the stairwells become occupied. The fixtures are a retrofit solution that communicates seamlessly with all Lutron Energi TriPak components.
