In his seven-year tenure at Color Kinetics (CK), Sims oversaw the company’s successful IPO, secondary offering and eventual sale to Philips for $800 million in 2007.
“Having helped LED technology grow from specialty markets to widespread use, I can see that Lumenpulse is a fast-emerging leader with its combination of advanced design, breadth of product offerings and superior performance. All three are critical to gaining a strong foothold in the architectural lighting market,” said Sims. “I’m very pleased to help guide the company in its next phase of growth as the technology continues to evolve and enable new, exciting applications.”
Sims joins Francois-Xavier Souvay, founder, president and CEO of Lumenpulse, on the Board, as well as Nicolas Bélanger, the co-founder of W Investments Inc., a private Canadian investment firm.
Several other ex-CK employees are now senior staff members at Lumenpulse. These include senior VP and chief financial officer, David Johnson, who served as CFO at Color Kinetics; chief technology officer and director of engineering, Greg Campbell; and Brandon Siemion, executive VP of sales, the Americas.
Other ex-CK luminaries are now involved in new, growing companies in the LED lighting space.
Ihor Lys, one of CK’s co-founders and the company’s chief scientist until 2009, is the Technical Advisor to the board of directors of EcoSense Lighting. EcoSense founder and chairman George Mueller co-founded Color Kinetics with Lys in 1997.
Also, Fritz Morgan, CK’s former chief technology officer, has joined Digital Lumens as chief product officer.
Morgan previously worked with Bill Sims at Joule Unlimited Inc., where Sims is president and CEO.
