Permlight and USLED settle patent-infringement lawsuit
03 Aug 2004
Permlight Products (Tustin, CA) and US LED (Houston, TX) have announced that the two companies have reached a settlement in the patent infringement lawsuit filed on February 20, 2004.

The lawsuit, filed in the United States District Court for the Central District of California claimed infringement of Permlight's US patent no. 6,578,986, entitled "Modular Mounting Method and Arrangement for Light Emitting Diodes."

Permlight alleged that US LED's "The Right White" LED system infringed Permlight's patent, which is related to Permlight's RL, SL, DL, DL2, DL3, DSL, PaletteLight, PaletteLight MINI and Twister product families.

USLED will now license Permlight's patented thermal management metal heat sink technology for its RightWhite products. Terms of the license were not disclosed.

Permlight files infringement lawsuit against Tempo Industries

On May 3, 2004, Permlight announced that it had filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Tempo Industries in the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

The lawsuit alleges that Tempo's Guardian, Sentry and Sentinel LED floor lighting systems infringe Permlight's US patents no. 6,082,870, entitled "Tread Area and Step Edge Lighting System" and no. 6,416,200 entitled "Surface Lighting System".

The patents are related to Permlight's popular AisleLight, StepLight, LightPath and SeatLight products. The complaint requests damages and an injunction against infringement.

In March 2004, Permlight announced the award of its sixth US patent no. 6,712,486 entitled "Mounting Arrangement of Light Emitting Diodes."
